Tech Week Launch 2019

The Tech Week launch was held on Thursday 23rd May. This launch was aimed at getting girls involved in STEAM education. We were one of four teams from Tahuna attending.

We had to get to school before 8:30am and get into the Tahuna van. Most of us had no idea what to expect as we drove to Balmac. When we arrived at Balmac we went inside the hall and found our place at the back. Once we settled down the introduction started about what we were going to be doing and how much time we had to do it. We learned that we were going to make an App to try solve a problem. First we had to find a problem that we wanted solve, so we thought of problems we can have at home. We chose to make an App to help parents encourage children to complete their chores.

We had to create an App on Thunkable and also make a Slide show to explain our reasoning. Kaila and Jorja began making the slideshow and Asha and Skylar starting making the app on Thunkable. We had to create links and buttons that went to our different pages and make it look presentable. This was challenging but fun.

Once we had finished, we had to present our product to the crowd. This was scary as there were so many people there but was pretty exciting. The other Tahuna groups made apps about mindfulness and fitness which were also very cool.

Some of the other groups from the different schools made apps about positive self image, climate change, gender equality and exercise.

The day was exciting and fun because we had never made an app before. It was awesome to see the different types of technology you can use and it was so fun to learn how to use it. The free lunch wasn't too bad either!
