On Monday the 24th of June, nine girls went with Mrs McBride to Queens for an inspirational talk from the founder of GirlBoss NZ, Alexia Hilbertidou. #GirlBoss is an organisation that encourages girls to pursue careers in STEAM. She started this when she was only 16. #GirlBoss now has 10,500 high school aged members nationwide. Alexia has gone on to do amazing things and has even met the Queen as well as many more amazing people. When we went we played lots of interesting games that encourage leadership and we learnt lots of interesting facts. These facts were surprising and showed just how much gender inequality there is in the world. Did you know there are more CEOs in the world called John than there are women CEOs in the world! #GirlBoss is wanting to change this. We raced the sphero robots and competed against other teams. We saw lots of cool inventions that helped change the world, all made by women, or to help women and we met other girls from Queens High School. This was an inspirational way to learn more about STEAM and it showed us that girls can do anything! We learnt a very important message, that no matter how young or how experienced you are, you can help change the world.
