Who am I? Who are we?

‘Identity is the deep knowledge of where I come from, where I’m going and to whom I belong’

Over the last couple of days as part of our Ko Wai Au teaching the students have been exploring the idea of individual identity and the notion of a collective identity within a group.

Students learned about each other, what makes them unique and then used dramatic techniques to introduce each other to members of The Hub.

Once the students were confident enough, we grouped them into 'tribes' of around 6-8. Their task was to take their knowledge about each others identity and create a tribal identity that works for them all, this included a tribe name, movement and sound.

The performances were wonderful to observe and clearly the students had a lot of fun learning about each other and finding their place in The Hub.

As teachers we also got involved which resulted in us performing all kids of things from surfing, to gym workouts to let the kids know a bit more about our identities as their teachers.

So much fun, learning and collaboration!
