Messy time in Year 8

It has been an unusual term 3 for all Tahuna students and families. However to their credit they have handled this extremely well and just got on with the task at hand. Lots of our regular activities didn't go ahead due to Covid restrictions. As we head into term 4 and possibly Level 1 we are hoping that more, if not all, of our activities will be able to return to Tahuna. Fingers crossed!!

Currently our Year 8 students have been getting their hands on with some chemistry activities. Unfortunately we were unable to make our annual trips to the Melor Laboratories at the Otago University. As a result we decided to bring the lab to the classroom with some engaging experiments based around the states of matter. In the picture above Room 10 students are trying to figure out if oobleck is a solid or a liquid! They had great fun trying to determine this and made just a little bit of a mess. (Sorry Mr Hunter). Other experiments that are being conducted are making a Co2 sandwich and creating ice cream!!! Students are having an excellent time exploring and learning about the different states of matter. The best part is that all these experiments can be created at home and are safe and fun for the whole family.
