Room 19 Camp

It was a sunny afternoon when we arrived at camp Berwick and an excited vibe buzzed between the students like some invisible energy net. There was a faint warm breeze in the trees that lined the oval shaped camping ground and water gurgled peacefully in the stream near by, that ran past the confidence course on the other side of the tree line, that separated the tents from the rest of the forest. Our class dumped their bags and we went for a tramp around the dark lake, the wind glanced off its ominous surface and I could feel the goat sprits calling me to its depths! Now that’s a whole other story! The afternoon and night flew by in a blur full of team building activities, confidence course, flying fox, a midnight hike and a rope in the forest activity. These activities challenged us to work together as a team, show bravery and confidence as well as work together as a team. Back at camp I was sleeping with Hunter and Josh and together we put up or tent for the night. I could tell it was going to be an awesome camp. By Matthew Hammond

CAMP RECOUNT RM 19

ALL of Rm 19 and the adults were buzzing with excitement when we arrived at Camp Berwick on the 27th of October, where we learned to be independent, teamwork and to build confidence. After a quick introduction and a set of rules from the warden, Debbie, we enjoyed putting up the tents and settling into them and after a quick break, it was straight back into the action with the confidence course and the flying fox all on the go. The confidence course was challenging and fun, with easy or hard stages for everyone. Zooming through the air in a harness was definitely a highlight for most, the flying fox was a big hit at Berwick.

The rest of the day went by a blur of waterslides, games, air rifles, grass skis, games, blindfold walks, quizzes, night walks and a walk where the parents and staff had a blast freaking us out and telling dead goat stories. Everyone was exhausted when bedtime finally rolled around, but it was a cold night ahead of us.

Early the next day everyone was dragged out of bed complaining about the lack of sleep and the terrible weather, but the complaints didn’t falter when the mud run was introduced. The mud run pushed our limits and made us persevere to do better and go faster so we could have pancakes for breakfast but sadly we had too much fun and time ran out so pancakes were substituted for one of Joe's yummy cupcakes for Josh’s birthday.

It was a quick pack up before heading to the wood walls. It pushed everyone’s limits trying to make it over the walls and we put in a lot of trust in our teammates to hold us up and pull us over and we were all encouraging each other to get confidence to cling to the next wall. When 19A arrived and it was all but chaos for a couple of minutes while we caught up with friends And chatted about the fun we were having then 19A headed off on a booooring tramp. Loading the bus was next on the agenda and teamwork was key on our human chain. The bus ride was full of jokes, yawns and conversations as we headed home, already missing Camp Berwick.
