It has been 10 Years since the last sighting.

The Coot

The coot is a majestic bird known well in the Nz bird watching community. The coot has a midnight black soft feathery body with grey mist bottom feathers. The coot has a black head with a stroke of white like the winter snow. It is quite rare but I have seen it.

The Marsh Crake

The Marsh Crake is a very rare to see bird.It has ginger feathers as soft as clouds with some gold like feathers here and there. With a black beak.

My experience

My experience with the Coot and Marsh Crake was awesome. I was standing looking at bugs when the main bird watcher (Ornithologist) asked me to come see if the binoculars were easy to see out of. I said “ok”, finished up with the bugs and headed over to see what I had to do. I started to look through the binoculars when “Look at the coot!” I rushed over not knowing what a coot was. I asked “What’s a coot?” They told me it’s a really rare bird that they haven’t seen in 10 years! I got pretty excited and started to bird watch.

The Marsh Crake sounds like…. A cat on steroids, it was not visible in the rāpou but it was definitely loud and an unusual sound.
