Meg Sayers, a Year 8 student at Tahuna Normal Intermediate School, is the pupil staff feel is fully deserving of being the recipient of the 2016 Sir Peter Blake Medal.

She is a talented sportsperson, who is involved in a wide variety of sports and achieves at a high level. She leads by example, attends practices, shows fairness to team members, demonstrates sportsmanship and follows instructions from her coaches that earn her such high accolades.

In the classroom she role models a positive work ethic, behaviour and attitude to her classmates. This is not always easy with the pressure from peers, but her strength of character comes through as she keeps her personal standards high. This also applies in the wider school community.

She is Co Chairperson of our School Council, having been a Class Council representative last year. Already she has shown leadership in chairing meetings, the way she discusses the minutes with the Principal and accurately reports back, assists with the fundraisers and has positive contributions to bring to the table eg. Completing the Canteen Survey with Robert. She has well developed time management skills, the respect and natural authority that enables her peers to follow willingly and top manners when interacting with people from all walks of life.

She is able to naturally demonstrate the Sir Peter Blake ideals without pretension, showing integrity, a determination to succeed, great team building and leadership. She is very hard working and does know how to have fun, but most importantly, is an extremely grounded and solid Tahuna citizen, who epitomises all the values we encourage in our students. With values like this, she is sure to go far. Sir Peter Blake would be very proud to see Meg as a recipient of the medal.
