Volleyball at Tahuna

2015 marks the first time Tahuna has been involved in the Dunedin Schools Volleyball competition. 6 teams represented Tahuna and all improved out of sight and had a lot of fun!!

Volleyball is one of the most popular summer sports played at high school, yet many intermediates and primary schools do not offer it as a sport. It was my pleasure to introduce Volleyball not only as an after school activity but also to the P.E. programme.

2 Year 8 boys teams, 2 Year 8 girls teams and 2 Year 7 girls teams participated in the Friday competition and all had great results throughout the season. Of note, Tahuna Green (Year 8 boys) showed great improvement to get the win off an unbeaten John McGlashan team in the last game of the season.

We were lucky enough to have coaches from both Bayfield High School and Volleyball Otago for P.E. I had great feedback from students and they thoroughly enjoyed having a go at sport they hadn't previously tried. L.A.P (lunchtime activity programme) was extremely popular when Volleyball was on!!

Hopefully we can get a few more teams entered in Term 4 (especially Year 7 boys) and continue to build Volleyball at the school.
