Keep Calm and Play Marimba

This term the students of Tahuna are learning to play the Marimba.

As the students quickly run to the music room, they think they are just here for another dull music session. However, as they glance into the room, they notice the Marimbas are set up and the excitement grows. I hear sounds of, "Yes! Yay! Are we doing Marimba?"

This term the students are learning to play the Marimba with an emphasis on playing simple notation and melody. The students are split into three groups, one playing bass, one middle and one on the top part. The students have to be able to play harmonising notes and contrasting rhythms while reading the music. Multitasking at its best.

Each class will be working on playing their own musical piece to perform to an audience. The year eights will be creating a melody for a music sample which can be made into a song.
