Room 9 visit the Tahuna Science Lab for Chemistry

Today was the first session with the Chemists from Otago University. Dr Dave Warren, and Dr Stasi Elliott worked with Rooms 5, 9 and 10.

The properties of Liquids, Solids and Gases were covered. The class were amazed with experiments involving Liquid Nitrogen and Dry Ice.

"We learned that water, steam and ice are the chemical H2O in different states of matter. My favourite part of the session was measuring and combining liquids into measuring cylinders. I learned that Liquid Nitrogen was -196 degrees celcius"

Each Year 8 Class will work with the Otago University staff 3 times over the term working through a range of experiments aimed at increasing their knowledge of Chemistry.

It is always a highlight for the Year 8's.
