2015 "POLYFEST"

Our three performing  cultural groups were a real credit to Tahuna at Polyfest this year.

Te Taiopeka began the evening with a very polished bracket that included a variety of items to showcase what this large, popular group has been practising over the year.  Full credit to Mr Hokianga who leads this group and is supported by Mrs Rouvi and Karyn.

The Cook Island group took to the stage next and the girls performed a traditional dance and then the vibrant drum dance.  Special thanks to Mrs Keni Moeroa who has tutored this group since its inception nearly 20 years ago and still enjoys sharing  a glimpse of Cook Island culture with the students.  The Saturday performance at the Otago Museum was also an opportunity to perform again and see some of "Aunty's"  Tivaivai quilts on display.

The Tahuna Samoan group was our final performance and this was also a carefully choreographed glimpse  into elements of Samoan culture.  Mrs Nela Mata'afa-Fereti began tutoring the group when she left Queen's High and has tutored the group for 17 of the 19 years since we started.  Along with siblings Sandra and Michael, the group proudly achieve high standards of performance and work really hard to deliver this on stage.

Special thank you to all members of these performing groups, particularly those in the Pasifika groups who attended lunch time, weekend and after school practices this term and many were involved in all three groups.  To the parents who transported to and from practice, also a big thank you.
