Room 16 Long Beach Climbing

Tuesday 30th August

Many parents were helping out by taking the Tahuna kids out to Long Beach for the rock climbing trip. Everybody was so excited to go rock climbing, and as soon as all the parents dropped off the kids, the teacher gave a brief explanation of what would be going on in the day. It would be a 2-hour time for each session, one for the rock climbing and one for the break session and then we would swap. Each group had around 13 people, the first group went out rock climbing and the second stayed back to prepare for their turn.

When the 1st group was done with their session of rock climbing, the 2nd group went, it was about a 5-minute walk there and back. As soon as we turned the corner of the Long Beach rock, the instructors were all ready and set to go. They gave us a brief explanation of what to look out for and how to harness yourself. Everybody started on the lowest part of the rock, to practice their rock climbing skills. As soon as we made it to the end, we paired up into groups of four to start rock climbing.

My group had to wait a few minutes for one of the other groups to finish their side of the rock. There were 4 climbing rocks to climb, 2 were 12 meters high, and the 2 others were around 16 meters high. We all climbed at least 2 of the ropes and when we were done we said thank you, walked back to the carpark, packed up all of our things and went back to school.
