R13 goes Rock Climbing!

By Zariah Mcleod

On Thursday, we went to Logan Park for our first Rock Climbing session. We were split into two groups so we would have smaller numbers for rock climbing. One went climbing and the other went for a walk with Miss Lang and we swapped over after an hour and a half. When it was our turn for rock climbing we started with bouldering to get our confidence up. Bouldering is when you climb on the wall lower down without a harness. We then learnt how to put on the harness properly and to check for 'the three c's'. After that we learnt how to belay. Belaying is the job of looking after the person on the wall and making sure they have enough rope and are safe. One person holds the rope and the other person helps feed the rope to the other person. Belaying is a super important job and you have to hold onto the rope super tight to make sure the person is safe. When it was my time to climb it was so fun. The hardest part was finding your footing and then coming back down. It was a fun experience and I can't wait for Long Beach next month.
