Kalani - The new South Island Champion!

In the school holidays, Kalani competed in the South Island Surf Championships and won in the U12 Category!

At the start of the holidays, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday I went to St Clair and Blackhead beach for the South Island Surf Competition. In my first round, I placed 1st. It was high tide so it was hard to get waves but I was pleased with my result. In my second round, which was the finals, I was competing against three other people. The surf was clean conditions with two/three foot waves. The final was out at Blackhead. It was nerve wracking because it was hard competition and there was even people from the North Island competing as well. I ended up winning. When I was paddling in to get my last wave, I didn't know I was going to get first. Then my friends came and got me and put me on their shoulders and told me I got first. My dad carried my board behind me.

Next year, I will be old enough to compete in Nationals.
