Day #1 Camp Tirohanga

Anticipation, Excitement, Tramping, Tent Pitching, Water-sliding, Outdoor cooking........Just to name a few activities we crammed in today!!

Team building started as soon as we arrived at school. Helping out Mrs McBride gather resources. FirsAidKits, WalkieTalkies and containers for the home baking. We loaded the bus together and the adventure began. We pulled into Outram Glen and started off with a competition while we waited for Kris and Richard (our helpful Dads). We ran down to the river to see who could skim the best stone. Sam McGee stole the show, with Benny coming in as champion stone thrower!! The tramp was absolutely stunning and Nancy taught us how to speak 'fantail'. It really worked, as one furry, little, fella followed us along the whole track. It was challenging at times as we kept quite a swift pace. Mrs McBride didn't muck around and we had to keep up with her. Needless to say it was very, very warm and the river was looking more inviting to cool off by the minute! We finally made it to our lunch spot. Again we skimmed stones, created stone art and re applied our sun block before heading back to the bus. Three hours later we were back on the bus. Even thoe we were hot and bothered our souls were feeling energised after re connecting with nature!! After unloading the bus we went for a wander around 'Camp Tirohanga'. Mrs McBride shared the Do's and Don'ts. We put our gear away, has a spot of afternoon tea and then put the tents up. This tested to be quite a challenge for some due to hard ground and crooked tent pegs!! After some hard yakka, Mrs McBride suggested we cool off with a giant waterslide "yes please!!!" We're not sure who had the most fun....... us or the dads!!
