Getting a taste of STEAM

Rūma Waru put their collaboration and co-operation skills to the test on Wednesday with the first STEAM challenge of the year.

In Room 8 this week we have been working on fostering our skills as team players - listening, asserting, collaborating, contributing and discussing. We topped this off on Wednesday with our first STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering. Arts and Maths) challenge. Each team had to design a 'marble run' using a limited number of resources in 30 minutes. The aim was for the marble to travel the largest distance when it left the structure.

It was busy, it was messy and it was loud but it was also really fun! It was great to see everyone working together, communicating, helping each other and sharing pride in their finished product. It was also a really good learning curve for all of us - in what we can do next time to be a more effective team member.

Well done to the winning teams!
