Performing Arts at Tahuna

Tahuna has become renowned for excellence in the Performing Arts. The opportunities for students to perform are many and varied, from performing at the closing ceremony of the Special Olympics to winning the Band Quest to performing for the Royal visit .

We have an amazing Te Taiopeka group facilitated by Mr Hokianga and this is rehearsed on a Friday after lunch, everyone is welcome to attend and we would like to see more Year 7 students .

Mr Tunoka has started choir rehearsals on a Wednesday at 12:10pm, we have a great sound and welcome more Year 7s to attend.

Mrs Coughlin and Miss Leonard will be starting girls' dance during sport options on a Friday morning, these will commence around the middle of the term. Miss Leonard will also be starting a hip hop group, initially at lunch times, the first session will be held next Friday 19th February 12:40pm.

Mr Waters will be starting Theatresports in Week 3 on  Monday at 12:40 and Orchestra will be at 9:45am Friday morning .

Next term we will be starting electives and Boys' Performance will start then.

At Tahuna we strongly encourage involvement in many different Performing  Arts' genre.  Students are rewarded for their commitment with Cultural/Performing Arts badges.

We are looking forward to professional actor Cindy Diver teaching our Year 7s "Identity" through drama, this begins in Week 3.

Music in 2016 offers a range of opportunities to get involved in.  You can learn guitar, bass, saxophone, drums, trombone, clarinet, violin, piano, keyboards with our excellent Itinerant Music Tutors.  We also have a recording studio, a band room and jam sessions that happen with a range of teachers during interval and lunchtime.  Get amongst it and be involved!

This year we continue with Band Quest (Tahuna band Rodeo Clowns 2015 winners for Otago), Rock Quest, Pacifica Beats competitions.  2015 saw us work with NZ Music Commission to be mentored by Jon Toogood from Shihad (something we will apply for again this year).

Mr Lousley (Music Teacher) aims to continue to create an even bigger vibe in 2016!
