Mountain Biking Success

On October 14th and 15th I competed in the South Island Secondary School Mountain Biking Champs held at Signal Hill here in Dunedin. I was entered in the Under 13 Downhill, Super D and the Cross country.

The Downhill was on the Saturday morning and the conditions were mint; dry and sunny. There were 161 riders racing in the downhill, In the first race I got fourth and then in the second race I got seventh. The thunder and lightning arrived for the second race run, it was pouring down and I fell off a couple of times but I still had fun .

Later that day was the Super D, it was still raining and the tracks were wet, really wet! We were plastered in mud by the end of the race. Luckily the track held up for all the racing and I ended up coming eighth, just ten seconds off fifth.

The next morning was the cross country, five laps of a 2.5km track it was hard and tiring in the squelchy mud and on top of three races. I ended up coming eleventh.

It was a super cool experience being around other mountain bikers all wanting a placing in the South Island’s, I ended up getting an overall ranking of fifth in the South Island for Under 13 boys.
