Dog Squad with the Otago SPCA

Chico and Alex at Dunedin Public Hospital visiting patients at the children's ward.

Hi im Alex Livingstone and I’m a year 8 student at Tahuna.

Last year I got really interested in animals and I wanted to help out with the SPCA.

I put my name down for a group called the dog squad. The dog squad involves visiting rest homes or hospitals and making the people there, entertained and have something there that they normally wouldn't get to see. I like going to rest homes because the people there get really impressed with the tricks that I have taught my dog Chico. I also like it because I get to hear the really cool stories about their dogs that they once had at home.

When I go around the children's hospital you find people with really sad stories or that have had a really bad injury, it doesn't just make their day to see a cute dog do really cool tricks but it makes my day too to see kids with cancer or that are stuck in hospital for a while get a smile.

My dog's name is Chico he is two years old and he is a spoodle (spaniel mixed with a poodle).

If you want to join the dog squad and help out with the SPCA come and see me in Room 10 or get online and have a look on the SPCA website. http://www.spcaotago.org.nz/

Thanks

Alex
