Year 8 News
Term Highlights & Adventures
It has been an action-packed start to the term for our Year 8 cohort! From the rugged outdoors of Southland to deep dives into personal development, our students are making the most of every opportunity.
Conquering Challenges at Camp Columba
Team 6 (Rooms 9, 10, and 12) recently returned from an unforgettable trip to Camp Columba, just outside of Gore. Our students represented the school with pride, consistently pushing themselves beyond their comfort zones.
The Big Hit: The 200m zipline was the undisputed highlight! Students loved the thrill of racing each other high above the kayaking lake.
Coming Up Next: The camp energy continues! Team 5 is heading out in Week 4, followed by Team 4 in Week 5. We hope they have an equally amazing experience.
A Massive Thank You: We want to extend a huge thank you to our incredible parent helpers. These trips simply could not happen without your time, energy, and support. We truly appreciate you helping us provide these memories for the students!
In the Classroom: Essential Life Skills
While teams have been busy with camp preparations, our Year 8 cohort has also been engaging deeply with our RSE (Relationships and Sexuality Education) unit. These sessions focus on:
Developing essential interpersonal skills and communication strategies.
Discussing strategies to help prepare students for the challenges of the adult world.
Fostering respect and self-confidence.
Looking Ahead: Matariki & Tūhura Otago Museum
In Week 6, all classes will be heading to Tūhura Otago Museum to launch our Matariki unit. During these visits, students will:
Visit the Planetarium: Explore the stars and the astronomical significance of the Matariki cluster.
Creative Design: Create their own night sky resources in preparation for our Matariki Evening in Week 11.
With so much happening already and even more to come, we thank you for your ongoing support in making these opportunities possible for our students.
Ngā mihi
