Year 7's
Year 7's demonstrating success.
The Year 7's have been busy with swimming, science fair extension, ICAS exams, end-of-season sports play-offs PBL, and cross country.
Next week is the end of our 6-week swimming programme. The students have been doing really well in their swimming lessons and demonstrating great success during their activity groups. Mr J was really impressed with the number of Year 7's who managed to conquer their fears and jump off the 3m diving board. Well done. Thank you to all the parents who have helped with supervising this programme.
Last week was the annual Aurora Science Fair. This was an optional event and three boards went down to the Science Fair to be judged. Well done to Jacob and Owen for their work on the types of bugs in their backyards. Well done to Olivia who looked at the benefits of dehydrating mandarin peels and adding them to soils to compost.
Congratulations to Feidhlim and Noah for winning a New Zealand Association of Optometrists Visual Science Award for their work on the components of an Aurora.
Over the past couple of weeks, some of the Year 7's have been extending themselves and having success on the ICAS exams. It is good to see these children having a go at Science, Mathematics, reading, and spelling.
A number of Year 7's have been involved in winter sports this season. There have been some great finals and placings in Netball, hockey, and basketball. Well done to all the Year 7's who have played a winter sport. A big thank you to all the parents and teachers who have coached and managed teams.
The Year 7's have been very busy working on their pantomimes for our local schools. It has been really great to see how the Year 7's are incorporating all the ideas and feedback from the younger children into their pantomimes. The Year 7's are looking forward to weeks 8&9 when they get to perform.
Thank you to all the parents who have offered up their time to come and share their expertise with acting, hair & makeup, and music. The students have really appreciated it.
Last week was our annual cross country and the Year 7's ran really well. Well done to everyone who participated in the event.
