Surf's up for Jack!

Jack Higgins competed in the Ray White Duke Festival of Surfing at New Brighton last weekend. Here's his story....

On Friday morning of the comp, I woke up so pumped for the comp, but I was also very nervous.

After a couple of hours the sun came up and the comp started up, the waves were pretty average just like any other day at Christchurch.

I was very cold so I put my wetsuit on and had a skate around with my friends to warm me up before my heat. After 30 minutes of skating around my heat was close to arrival, so I got my rash top and headed down to the beach with my surfboard.

As I was paddling out my heart was pounding with nervousness. A bit after my heat I was pretty bummed but I went for a surf after with my friends and my dad. As my dad was paddling out he found a crab pot in the sand and he saved it for us to use.

After our surf a couple of my friends went to search for free bait to use to catch some crabs, they finally arrived at the camper van and we headed off to the pier to do some crab fishing. Later that day after fishing, we made 30 dollars off selling crabs.

Later that day me and my friends played basketball together and did some other activities.

It was a great experience and I learned a lot. On to the next comp on my competitive surfing journey.
