Assessment Weeks

During the weeks of 26 October - 6 November, your child will take part in four online assessments and some smaller tasks linked to the assessment.

These include an online maths (2), reading, and writing test, a reading task, and a spelling test. These results will add to the other assessment data and observations teachers keep to help inform the end-of-year report comment.

These are not "high-stakes tests", as we already know what your child is capable of, but it is important that students take them seriously and do their best. We are not advising that they need to do any extra study, but it would be a good week to make sure they are going to bed early and are mentally prepared for school.

The tests are not designed to create anxiety, but that is essentially the nature of a test and is an important part of the learning process, and something that they will only come with more pressure as they grow older. Parents should keep this in mind and watch for changes in mood or behaviour.

We carefully analyse the data we collect, and I look forward to sharing the results with you in upcoming newsletters, which are only 7 weeks away. Where did the year go!
