Year 8 News

Welcome to the beginning of a new school year in Year 8! We hope this newsletter finds you well and excited for the upcoming academic journey.

In Year 8, we've hit the ground running by conducting various assessments to assess our students' skills and abilities. This valuable information guides us in tailoring our teaching approach to both challenge and enhance their existing knowledge and learning experiences.

Mathematics lessons have primarily focused on statistics and our basic facts program with real-world applications adding depth to our learning. From analysing the cars passing through Tahuna road to categorising colours, brands, and occupants, students have honed their graphing skills while uncovering fascinating insights about their surroundings.

In our literacy studies, we've delved into the world of biographies and autobiographies, examining the remarkable lives of figures such as Kate Sheppard and Roald Dahl, among others.

In our Topic lessons, we've delved into the art of storytelling, exploring our heritage and delving into Maori creation myths through our PBL unit Ko Wai Au. Concepts like "Whakapapa" and "Rohe" have been central to our discussions.

As summer sports kick off, it's wonderful to witness so many Year 8 students proudly representing Tahuna across Touch, Futsal, Volleyball, and water polo. I urge all students to seize the opportunity to participate and fully embrace their last year at Tahuna. As they engage in these sports, students not only foster teamwork and sportsmanship but also create lasting memories and bonds that will accompany them beyond their time at Tahuna.

We're excited about the learning opportunities that lie ahead and look forward to working with you in nurturing the academic and personal growth of our students. Should you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Ngā mihi
