Year 7 News

Looking ahead to Term Four.

A Deep Dive into Financial Literacy! 💰

We're excited to announce a new and engaging math unit focused on financial literacy for our Year 7 students! This isn't just about numbers; it's about giving students the real-world skills they need to navigate their financial futures. Next term, students will be diving into a range of practical topics, from understanding income and expenses to learning about saving, budgeting, and the basics of investing. We'll be using hands-on activities and real-life scenarios to make these concepts relatable and easy to grasp. The highlight of this unit will be applying these new skills to a thrilling, creative project: the Year 7 Cardboard Arcade Day!

Students will be calculate their costs, set prices for their games, and manage their finances to make a profit. It’s a fantastic opportunity for them to see how the math they're learning in the classroom directly translates to a fun and profitable venture.

A Trip to the University of Otago Physics Department! 💡

In addition to our financial literacy unit, we have a fantastic trip planned for our students to the University of Otago Physics Department! This trip will be a hands-on exploration of key physics concepts that we've been covering in class. Students will get to see how forces, the transfer of energy, and pulley systems work in a dynamic, laboratory setting. We'll be running experiments and demonstrations that bring these scientific principles to life, providing a deeper understanding of them to transfer into their arcade game. This trip will be an excellent opportunity for our students to connect their classroom learning to the real world and spark their interest in the exciting field of physics.

We wish all Year 7's a great holiday and we look forward to seeing them back again ready for an exciting term.
