Celebrating Tongan Language Week
Ngatu patterns on display in the lab.
During the transition back to school from Level 3 we were working through some Tongan Language Week Activities. We looked at a variety of myths and stories from Tonga including the ha' amogna stones. There are a number of oral histories about the meaning of the stones and who built them. One of these was that the King had the stone structure created with the value of his two sons holding up his daughter to show the importance of women in Tongan culture.
We made comparisons between the Maori and Tongan myths about fire and finished our week with making Ngatu patterns.
