Upcoming Change to Variable School Speed Limit Timeframes
The Dcc are updating variable 30km/h speed limit timeframes outside schools in Dunedin to make them consistent across the city. Currently, the timeframes are based on different school start and finish times, which can vary between schools. The change means motorists will have one consistent rule to follow. This aims to improve clarity and reduce confusion, and is in line with the Setting of Speed Limits 2024 rule.
From January next year, the new 30km/h speed limit outside your school will apply at the following times:
Weekday mornings: 8:00 am to 9:15 am
Weekday afternoons: 2:45 pm to 3:45 pm
A standard approach across the network will ensure variable speed limits are clearer for motorists, improving the safety of school children and other road users.
Thank you for your cooperation as we make this change. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
