Specialist Areas Term 4
Students have recently started in their final rotation of our specialist subjects for the year. Please make sure you ask them what they have been learning and doing.
Visual Art: Our Year 7 students have settled brilliantly into the art room! They are quickly becoming familiar with where all the equipment and supplies are kept, and they've shown a fantastic understanding of classroom expectations.
In their practical work, students are demonstrating growing independence as they explore tone and depth. Using charcoal and white pencil, they have been learning how to create smooth, gradual shifts in value to produce striking, effective artwork. It’s wonderful to see them building confidence right from the start of the term!
Our Year 8 artists have been diving into color theory, mastering the creation of hues, tints, and shades using acrylic paint. Beyond building technical skills, students are growing noticeably more confident and independent in the art room—thoughtfully choosing the right brushes for their work and learning how to gauge precisely how much paint to apply. It’s wonderful to see their artistic decision-making, exploring their colour schemes.
Food Tech: Year 7 students have gained their Food Tech licences and are enjoying their practical sessions where they develop practical skills whilst working co-operatively in groups. Ask them about their pizza creations, pancake flipping and pinwheel rolling.
Year 8 students have learnt how to cook pasta until it is 'al dente' and have made their own dumplings. They look forward to working on their design task later in the term.
Materials Tech: Many students are now onto their second project, so finished first projects are heading home. Well done to those students who persevered at learning their own skills with woodwork and have finished their own very original project.
