Marae Week 2020

In Marae Week, we had technology. There were 5 tech groups which were, Hard Materials/ Design Tech, Food Tech, Art, Jewellery (Digi Tech).

In Design Tech we made wooden boxes as a gift for the next group and we received a pre-made box, we sanded the box, oiled it, and glued a wooden image onto it. At the end of the day, we had really cool small boxes that are really special.

In Digi Tech we made jewellery from shells, beads, wires, and much more. You could make earrings, necklaces, bracelets, etc. There were also a lot of power shells which are really decorative. We had to give them to someone special.

In Art we used watercolours to make cool coloured pieces of paper; we also wrote a Māori quote on it. We wrote a meaningful quote that means something important to us. We also wrote on black paper another quote that also meant something important to us, we had to put Māori on it. In addition to that, we made a landscape circle with cool shading. You could also shade a Māori drawing, which was also really cool. At the end of the day, we had two sheets of paper that fit perfectly in the wooden box.

We made Paraoa Parai in the food tech room, they were basically donuts. We made raspberry jam with sugar chia seeds and raspberries of course that was a topping. The dough was really simple, it was only flour, salt and water I think and all you did was mix until everything was together so you don’t over mix it and after cooking and mixing cover them in cinnamon sugar and whatever toppings. It is traditional Māori fried bread cooked in most households but is now considered for special occasions.
