Year 8 Term 4 Update:
A Flying Start to Our Final Term!
It has been an action-packed start to Term 4 for our Year 8 cohort at Tahuna! With this being our students' final term with us, the energy across the syndicate is high, and everyone has hit the ground running with exciting classroom projects, sports, assessments, and preparations for next year.
Academic Focus & End-of-Year Assessments
Our students have shown fantastic focus recently as they work through their end-of-year assessments. These assessments allow our Year 8s to showcase their progress, reflect on their academic growth across the year, and provide valuable baseline data as they prepare for the transition to secondary school.
Young Entrepreneurs: Financial Literacy & Trading Day Prep
Enterprise is in the air as students prepare for our much-anticipated Trading Day in Week 9. To ensure their ventures succeed, classes have been diving into financial literacy lessons. Students are discovering the value of money, learning how to budget, calculating production costs, and figuring out what it really takes to run a profitable, sustainable business. Creative business plans, prototype products, and stall ideas are already taking shape!
Digging Deep into Literature: Holes by Louis Sachar
Inside the classroom, our English focus has taken us straight to Camp Green Lake. We have begun a novel study on Holes by Louis Sachar. Students have been exploring central themes of friendship, fate, justice, and perseverance, analyzing quirky character dynamics, and uncovering the mysteries buried within the story.
Action on the Track: Tahuna Athletics Day
Out on the field, the Year 8s brought incredible determination, sportsmanship, and school spirit to the annual Tahuna Athletics Day. Whether sprinting for the finish line, pushing limits in field events, or loudly cheering on housemates, our students represented their classes with immense pride and enthusiasm.
Stepping Up: High School Orientation Day
An important milestone is just around the corner: High School Orientation Day on Friday, 13 November. This is an exciting opportunity for our students to experience life at secondary school and get a feel for their new routines for 2027.
Note for Whānau: If you require specific details or have questions regarding orientation schedules and transport, please contact your child’s prospective high school for 2027 directly.
Looking Ahead: Celebrations & Final Milestones
As you can see, it has already been a whirlwind start—and the excitement doesn’t stop here. Over the coming weeks, we have an incredible lineup of end-of-year celebrations planned to farewell our Year 8s in style:
High School Orientation Day (Friday, 13 November)
Trading Day (Week 9)
The Year 8 Social ( Week 8)
Year 8 Outing to Moana Pool and Tenpin Bowling at Bowline (Week 9)
Thank you to all our families and whānau for your continued support as we help our Year 8s make the most of their final weeks at Tahuna Normal Intermediate!
