Mātauranga Māori Week
Next week from Monday 26th June to Thursday 29th June we will be holding a week dedicated to Mātauranga Māori where we will celebrate and learn about various aspects of Te Ao Māori. There will be activities such as waiata, haka, weaving, poi and much more for students to enjoy.
The week will start with students learning about the tikanga and kawa involved in a pōwhiri with students practising some of these protocols in a mihi whakatau between the Year 7 and Year 8 students. Students will then have a chance to whakanoa, with each class meeting with their team and sharing some kai. Each child is required to bring an item of food to share on Monday 26th if possible. - No lollies please.
Matariki Evening/Disco
Tahuna’s Matariki celebration will be held at the school on Wednesday 28th June from 5pm to 6:30pm. There will be waiata, dancing, crafts, Māori Kēmu and more! We would love to have you and your whanau join us to celebrate Matariki. Kai will be available but must be prepaid to ensure we have enough kai for the evening. These forms and student help consent forms will be sent out this week.
This will then be followed by the end of term disco, which will already be set up in the hall with a Matariki theme. This will start at 6:45pm and will end at 8:30pm. Consent forms for this will also be sent out this week.
Ngā Mihi,
Manuel Wehi.
