Matariki
Kia ora Tahuna Whānau,
As we move through June, the appearance of Matariki in our night sky signals a very special time of year – Te Mātahi o te Tau, the Māori New Year.
Matariki is a time of reflection, remembrance, celebration, and looking forward. It's when we acknowledge those who have passed on, gather with our whānau, and consider our hopes and dreams for the year ahead.
The theme of Matariki corresponds with the school year. It is an excellent time to assess your success and make plans for the remainder of the year. Over the next month, we will share with you school results (Wednesday, June 25th, at 7pm), your child's results and work on's (Friday, June 27th) through the reports and parent-teacher interviews in the first week back at school.
This year, the official Matariki public holiday is Friday, June 20th and the school will be closed. We will be holding our special Matariki-themed disco on Tuesday the 17th at 7pm.
We encourage you to continue the conversations and celebrations at home. Sharing a meal together, discussing your family's aspirations, or simply taking time to enjoy each other's company are all meaningful ways to observe Matariki.
