Extension Writing
As part of my job as Literacy Support Teacher I am lucky enough to teach talented writers.
Year 8 students have been selected by their classroom teachers for Extension Writing. Four groups have weekly lessons throughout the year.
The purpose of each lesson is to extend students’ writing ability by deepening knowledge of how language works. Each week we examine a text and analyse the skills used by a published author. Then it is time to write and apply some of these identified techniques.
During the year students will publish work in this newsletter. Libby and Abby are the first contributors. Thanks girls!

I love my mum's car. We go to the football fields and mum takes Gus my dog out of the car and goes for a walk, and I just sit there with a book and read, while the sun shines through the window. But that’s not all I do. I listen to music from the car radio. I also look out on the city and watch cars drive past and just simply think about all kinds of crazy stuff, like for instance, what are the purpose of eyebrows and is the leftover pizza still in the fridge?

I love our home grounds. I always get to the game early in the morning so I can walk on the pitch bare foot. I love the feel of the crisp grass between my toes, the drops of dew on every single blade of grass, the smell of the sea across the other side of the sand dunes. I remember that we have not yet lost a game here, and I’m wishing we will win today. I can already hear the parents and supporters cheering on the sidelines, smiling and happy. I lie down beside the goal, staring up at the birds gliding across the blue sky, watching and waiting for some form of food.
