Mirror Counselling Services

Tahuna is pleased to welcomeKylie Barker from Mirror Services back to Tahuna for 2024. Kylie has been working as the school counsellor for more then 5 years in our school. Mirror Counselling at Tahuna allows students who have mild to moderate mental health needs to access confidential, safe and professional counselling onsite during school time, if they are accepted into the service. These are 30-45 min sessions, bookable through Roddy Scoles by students, teachers and parents. Kylie is onsite at Tahuna on Mondays between 0900am and 1230pm. Kylie holds a bachelor’s degree in counselling and has a full membership with NZAC. Kylie specialises in child and adolescent counselling and has more than 10 years’ experience in this field. Kylies scope is to work alongside young people with mild to moderate mental health needs, should a student require further support a referral to an appropriate service will be made.

Kylie will be working in one of our office spaces allowing a safe, comfortable, and confidential room for students on school grounds. Any information collected by Mirror Services is safely secured .on our Pluto platform our dedicated client management system. Parent/ caregiver consent is not a requirement to entry to this service, however, should there be significant risk identified, the school and whanau/caregivers will be notified immediately.

Be Heard Children's Counselling Trust is a charity that offers free one to one counselling to children in selected Dunedin primary and intermediate schools. Imogen comes to Tahuna on Mondays and provides a safe space for children with low to moderate difficulties to talk about their thoughts and feelings, and develop some frontline coping strategies. A referral form can be completed by the student, parent/caregiver or teacher, and after an initial meeting, if the child is accepted into the service, they will be offered several 30-45 minute sessions depending on their need. Be Heard's scope is to provide a safe space to talk, so if a child requires more significant support, they will be referred onto a more appropriate service.

All sessions are confidential and held in a dedicated room on school grounds. Any information that Be Heard receives is stored securely in Cliniko, a patient management system. Parent/caregiver consent is not always required however, if there is any concern the child is in danger of harm, parents/caregivers and the school will be immediately notified.
