The Return of Cam Calkoen ...

After a gap of ten years, or maybe even longer, we were delighted to welcome back the wonderful Cam Calkoen.

A few weeks ago we were delighted to welcome back Cam Calkoen. Cam first spoke to Tahuna students some 15 years ago and visited us again a couple of years after that.

Then, somehow, ten years or more went by but, when were heard that Cam was going to be in town to speak at the National Young Leaders Day, we jumped at the chance to invite him back.

Cam ran his "Backpack of Belief" workshop for our House Leaders and some of our school councillors before then speaking to a whole school assembly.

The words "inspirational speaker" are overused but Cam is exactly that - an inspiring, engaging, entertaining and thought-provoking speaker. While students are immediately struck by the fact that Cam has cerebral palsy, that's soon forgotten as they are swept up in Cam's wonderful storytelling. Woven into his stories are his message that, if you put your mind to it, hard work, positivity and determination can take you a long way.

Cam is one speaker whose visit will stay fondly in our minds for a long time - with a bit of luck we'll see him back at Tahuna before another ten years go by!
