Planning Dunedin's future
In the Hub, our students are examining some of the major issues facing Dunedin as it faces environmental and city planning challenges.
Since returning from lockdown we have been working closely with the Ōtākou STEAM cluster and the Strategic Planning Team at the Dunedin City Council, in examining six key issues facing Dunedin's immediate future. They are;
1. Sustainable Transport
2. Urban Growth
3. A Vibrant Central City
4. Green infrastructure
5. Predator Free Dunedin
6. South Dunedin's Rising Water
Students have been very busy researching these issues, developing their understanding of what the core problems are, solutions used around the world and planning concepts for a model or prototype that could be used in Dunedin to help with these challenges.
Students will soon be building their model/prototype either digitally (online) or physically (using cardboard, lego, other materials etc.)
The winning projects from the Hub will enter a competition to present their work at an exhibition that will be judged by some of the city's key decision makers.
It's a very exciting time in the Hub and some of the concepts thought up by our students are quite visionary with loads of potential for our city.
