Specialist Teaching Areas

Busy hands on learning with lots of skills being developed and quality finished products. Check out the great photos!

Visual Art: The year 8 students have been creating art based around colour that looks good enough to eat. I've been very impressed with the fun, colourful results. The year 7 students have been learning about monochromatic art and contour lines. Exciting work is happening with charcoal pencils and chalk pastels also.

E-Tech: It has been a busy 3 weeks in the E-Tech room, with visiting students Harrison and Oliver from the USA, teaching students about First Lego League Robotics. Our teams are also all excited for the Robocup Regional Friendly competition against DNI teams here at Tahuna this Friday 14th June. Lots of cool 3D printed items are being made, catapults, basketball shooting hoops and jewellery stands.

Food Technology: Year 7 students have been exploring the science of baking and have moved into designing and planning their own recipes for a 'Brilliant Bake Off'. Year 8 students have been designing and trialling their finger food products for our upcoming Tahuna Arts Evening and the Oamaru Sports Exchange.

Hard Materials: A hugely productive few weeks in the Hard Materials department. New classes have started and are getting a extensive introduction into workshop safety with handtools thrown in for good measure! Soon these students will be planning, designing and constructing a storage box to suit a specific purpose, watch this space! A massive shout out to some classes who have finished their hard materials rotation with some great outcomes have been achieved by all the students, well done.
