A great start to the term!

It has been an excellent last few weeks with all that is great about Tahuna on full display.

Academically, our students performed at the highest level at the Epro8 Competition. Epro8 is a STEAM challenge and a real test of the students' creativity and collaboration skills. A special well done to "The Calculators" team, who won the entire competition. Thank you to Karen Parker for your leadership and expertise in this area.

One Performing Arts evening was also a huge success, with the talents of so many of our students on full display. The sense of pride in the room from so many parents who attended was palpable. Thank you to Xzenia Kutia, Liza Whitson, Anna Bowen and all the staff put on this memorable evening.

The Winter Sports programme has started or about to start, with many teams representing Tahuna competing in basketball, hockey and netball competitions. A special thanks to parents who help take teams and to the staff who are also taking a number of teams. We would not be able to have so many students involved in a sport this year without your support.

David Owen has been leading the Community programme with strong representation from Tahuna at the ANZAC Dawn parade, and a special well done to Millie Curtis and at the Anderson Bay commemorations. He has also had the World Vision team come in to talk to the students about thinking more globally.

Thank you to all of the teachers (and their families) for taking school camps over the last two weeks. It is a massive commitment for teachers with a huge amount of additional work in preparing and delivering a camp. A special thank you to our four-year group leaders, Rob Wells, Kate Walsh, Karen Parker and David Owen, for leading this project. I was lucky enough to attend the Waihola camp last week, and it was great to see children pushing themselves to complete activities they had never tried before and finding success.

Finally, I would like to thank Jennie Scott and all our specialist teachers for their involvement in developing the new specialist teaching block. They have had to work in makeshift situations in term 1, constantly moving the vast number of resources back and forth, and have contributed significantly to the design of the new learning spaces. It is wonderful to see them working in a safer and more conducive learning environment.
