Year 8 2021

Kia ora koutou

It has been a fantastic start to 2021 for our Year 8 students. For some classes camp preparations are well underway with the Year 8 camps starting in week 3. A huge thanks to all parents who have offered to help support our camps already. We can't do them without you!!

Topics this term are our major unit Tautanagata - Our Identity, statistics for maths, reading about the Treaty of Waitangi and New Zealand history, fitness testing for the infamous block run and beep test as well beginning of year assessments. Our summer sports programs are underway please contact your classroom teacher if you think your child has missed out on a team. As you can see it is already a very busy term.

We will also be having a visit from our Public Health Nurse on Tuesday the 2nd of March to talk about the upcoming HPV vaccinations. The vaccinations will be taking place on the 4th May term 2. Here is a notice from the Southern DHB.

The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination programme will be offered to all year 8 students at school this year.

During early-mid February and March, the Public Health Nurses associated with each school will be doing education around the vaccinations to the year 8 students. The students will be given a consent form to take home to their parents/caregivers. If you do not wish for your child to partake in the education please contact the school.

Please read the consent form carefully, fill it out in pen and return it to school ASAP, even if you do not consent for your child to be vaccinated at school.

No student will be vaccinated without their parent/caregiver’s consent.

The HPV vaccination is also available free of charge through your practice nurse or doctor up to their 26th birthday. Delaying the vaccine may mean your child needs more injections to be protected, as people aged 15 years and older need three injections.

For any further information please phone the Public Health Nurse for your school, or look up www.health.govt.nz/hpv

Once the public health has been to talk booklets will be sent home with students for parents and caregivers to look over. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact your classroom teacher or my self.

Thanks again to all students and parents for a wonderful start to the year. I am looking forward to an awesome year.
