Year 8 News
Halfway through the term already! Since our last update in, the Year 8s have been busy with first aid courses in preparation for our upcoming camps. This involved hands-on activities to help prepare them for any first aid-based situations they might come across in the future.
Our Ko Wai Au unit is nearing an end, and students are busy prototyping different digital tools to help present their mihi or pepeha. Students have been researching their whakapapa and their rohe in order to create a visual representation of who they are.
Next up, we have our RSE (Relationships and Sexuality Education) unit beginning in week 7. Students will be guided through areas including who am I, gender and stereotypes, relationships, growing and changing, staying safe, and where to get help. All students are encouraged to talk to their parents/caregivers about what is covered in each lesson. Parents/caregivers should have received an email in week 6 about this and what is covered during the unit. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your classroom teacher or me.
The first of the Year 8 camps to Columba will take place in week 11, with Rooms 10 and 11 being the first to go. Staff and students are excited about this new venue this year.
Looking forward to the remaining half of the term.
Ngā mihi
