Tahuna Ski Trip 2018

Another year and another awesome Ski adventure for Tahuna students.

On the 27th of July 42 Tahuna pupils went on an adventure to Coronet Peak for weekend to go skiing and snowboarding. On Friday afternoon we got on the bus and started our 5 hour bus ride. When we got to spectacular Queenstown we went to a food court and got some dinner. After we got some food in our system we headed up the mountain access road in silence which is a tahuna tradition. We were lucky to stay at the Otago and Southland Ski lodges up on the mountain only a few minutes walk from the ski lifts.

When we woke up on Saturday morning it was a lovely day for skiing and snowboarding with 15cm of fresh snow overnight and fine clear conditions. The first thing we did was to get through ski hire and into our lessons for the first hour and a half. After checking in we could ski with our friends and continue to develop our skills for the rest of the day. Regular check ins by Teachers made sure that we were safe at all times.

The chair lift was my favourite part because you could see some good views over to the Remarkables, Arrowtown and down into Queenstown. Everybody really improved over the weekend and definitely made the most of this incredible opportunity to hit the slopes with our school mates. Every morning we got up at 6:30 and had breakfast about 7:00. After breakfast we walked up to the ski field and got our ski boots, skis and poles. Everyone brought money for the cafeteria. The food on the mountain was quite expensive so the home baking and fruit that the teachers put out for us really helped. I think all of the people who went on the ski trip really enjoyed it and would highly recommended it to anyone who was looking at going next year.
