Ōtepoti Dunedin Whānau Refuge - Successful Food Drive for the Refuge's Kai Pantry

A huge thank you to all those were able to donate food items for the Ōtepoti Dunedin Whānau Refuge during Week 9 of Term 3.

It had been a while since the Tahuna School Council had organised a Food Drive for a local group. We couldn't have been more pleased with the results.

It sent a powerful message to our students that, by each doing something small, they can achieve huge things as a collective.

On Friday morning, class councillors brought the koha from their class down to the foyer. Several councillors then organised the donations - the can tower alone contained 386 cans! We didn't count the overall total but it would probably be in the range of 700 to 800 items.

Refuge staff came to collect everything - they were blown away! Our donations will be a huge help as the Refuge provides food to around 20 families every single week.

Thanks once again from the Tahuna School Council.

Here's a mesage from Claire and the team at the Refuge:

Firstly, thank you so much for the massive effort your students went to today!! What an outcome! This has fully stocked our kai pantry at the office and our safe house with non-perishables which goes a long way in supporting our whānau at times of need.

Our staff were blown away when helping to unpack the vehicle.

I have attached some photos, and also a certificate of appreciation for you all to put up somewhere! A few of the photos show the before and after which I am sure your students will love to see.

Ngā Mihi Nui, Claire (and team!)
