AIMS Games 2015
Last week Charlotte Underwood-Nicol and Madi Wills competed in the AIMS Games in Tauranga. They also became celebrities in the process!
On the 6th of September we flew up to Auckland at 9:50am and arrived at 11:35am. Then we had to drive down to Tauranga for the 2015 NZCT AIMS Games. When we got there we settled into our hotel and had something to eat before we headed off to the opening ceremony where we got announced out of 8,700 kids since we were the furthest traveling team out of the games.
The next day (Monday 7th) we got up at 6am to get to the games breakfast to have a cooked breakfast and that's where all the media attention started when we were on Breakfast (TV1) and got to meet Sam and Rawdon.
After a few hours we had lunch and headed to the pool for racing that night. When we got to the pool we had a 1 hour warm up then we were racing till 9:30 at night. After all our races we went back to the hotel and had dinner and then went to bed.
The next day (Tuesday the 8th) when we woke up we had breakfast and went to the mall to have a look because we didn't race till 4pm that night. After looking round we got lunch and went to the hotel for a rest before racing. Then we went to the pool and had warm up and raced. After our races since we thought we did well we played on the hydroslide for a while before being interviewed by Sky Sport News and that's where we met Elizabeth Van Welie, a former Commonwealth Games swimmer from Central Otago. After our interview we went to the hotel had dinner and went to bed. The next day (Wednesday the 9th) we packed up our stuff and had a 3 hour drive back to Auckland airport to drop off the rental car and fly home to Dunedin to see our families again.
