A great day out at the Alpiners Hockey Games

A couple of weeks ago, we had the chance to enter some 6-a-side teams in a mini tournament which was the curtainraiser for the Alpiners' opening games of the 2025 season.

The Alpiners women's and men's teams represent the whole of the South Island and they play in the four team Professional Hockey League.

Even though our own season had finished, over 30 of our Tahuna players kitted up and played in a six-a-side tournament immediately before the Alpiners' games.

Our players got to meet many of the Alpiners. They collected as many autographs as possible on their posters and the Alpiners were very generous with their time. One current Black Stick even came over and gave us some tips during a half-time team talk (thanks, Finn!).

Many of our players stayed around to watch two games of amazing hockey. Live hockey of this standard is fantastic to watch and this was a great day out!
