Owl rescued at Tahuna Normal Intermediate- Update

Kaela and Bayan got to release the Little Owl today. Bird Rescue Dunedin did an awesome job of getting it back to full health and it was released over at Tahuna Park to carry on the good work of killing pests!

I had just gotten to school and had greeted my friend, Bayan. We were walking around the grounds when something on the cricket pitch caught my eye. Bayan told me it was just some kids shoe but I was determined to find out what it was just in case it was something else…When we looked closer we discovered that it was a small, adorable owl!! I carefully crept down next to it and saw it was being strangled in the fraying turf. Holding the poor thing, I asked my friend to go and get some scissors so I could cut it free. When she had returned I carefully cut the string away from its body so I could untangle it without killing it.

Once it was free I carefully took it to Miss Bates and Mr Lousley (who happened to be there at the time) in room 5. Mr Lousley placed the fluffy owl into a box and carried it up to Room 12 and left it on the desk so he could talk to Mr Scoles who then called the SPCA. I hope the tiny owl is okay and healthy.

We then went back out to the cricket pitch and cut away the parts that the owl was caught up in. Thank goodness that it was found as if a dog or cat had of seen the owl it may not have made it.

Miss you little owl!!
