Dunedin 2040 Exhibition

In the Hub this week there were two exhibitions held to showcase the work of the students in helping to plan for a bright future for Dunedin.

Since returning from lockdown we have been working closely with the Ōtākou STEAM cluster and the Strategic Planning Team at the Dunedin City Council, in examining six key issues facing Dunedin's immediate future. They are;

1. Sustainable Transport

2. Urban Growth

3. A Vibrant Central City

4. Green infrastructure

5. Predator Free Dunedin

6. South Dunedin's Rising Water

Our students have been very busy researching these issues, developing their understanding of what the core problems are, solutions used around the world and they have created either a physical or digital model/prototype that could be used in Dunedin to help with these challenges.

The two exhibitions were for the students who worked on a digital build and a physical build. The digital builders created posters that summarised their ideas and included a QR code for people to link through to their digital builds on the platform they chose.

Our class was able to celebrate each others work, investigate and examine their thinking and build on their own knowledge of the issues facing Dunedin.

For the teachers in the Hub, it was a great moment for us to see the students' work, thinking and creativity on display. Some solutions found were a strategic wall construction to prevent rising sea level, innovative and environmentally friendly cladding to help with the demands of urban growth, water ways through the CBD and cleverly designed traps for pests and predators.

Winners to be announced soon.....
