Our thoughts are with our friends and colleagues at Musselbrough School this week who have been the first school in Dunedin since the start of the Pandemic to have a positive case. They have handled it extremely well and professionally and are a credit to their community.

Like Musselbrough School, Tahuna and all schools in Dunedin have been working hard at their mitigation plans and preparing for the envitability of having positive cases in the school.

Despite the looming threat of Covid19, it has been a very positive first three weeks with classes settling into their learning programmes and children having fun in the playground.  

We have even managed to get four classes away to camp and will continue to send classes to camp until we have a positive case in the school.  

Sports have started this week with Volleyball, Touch and Futsal and the rest will start soon.  It has been wonderful to see so many of our students taking part.  A special well done to all students who are trying a new sport for the first time.  A big thank you to all of the parents who have volunteered to either coach or manage one of the huge numbers of teams that we have this year.  We couldn't do it without your support!  

We are keen to get our cultural programme up and running and we are currently looking at ways we can do this safely within the schools' health and safety plans.

Thank you again to the staff for their "Meet the Teacher" videos.  We all found the challenge of talking to a camera compared to a classroom most unnatural but it reflects the commitment they have to form a partnership with you and your child to achieve the most positive outcomes for your child.  If you haven't had a chance to see your teachers video ask your child to show you around their Google Classroom.  This will be an important starting point should your child have to work from home this year.

Who knows what the next three weeks will bring us before our next newsletter goes out but rest assured that we will keep you up to date with any major changes that will take place.
