St Clair Beach

Inspired by James K Baxter

The beach was usual enough: it had

an Esplanade, a sandy shore, dark blue

water and a bunch of seagulls gobbling

left over food. My brothers, sisters and I did

what children do - chased the seagulls,

slid down sand dunes, ran around

with the dog, got our feet wet...then

our knees, and eventually our clothes,

shivered when we got out, made sand castles

Doing nothing important.
