Pewter with Mr Tait

In design tech with Mr Tait, we had the opportunity to make pewter necklaces, badges, earrings and more but there was a fairly long process. It started with concept sketches, there was a lot of trial and error but we all found what we wanted to do. The next step was the development drawing. This was the difficult step we had to perfect our drawing and make sure there were no flaws. For example we had to make sure the pewter could flow through. I’ll get on to the moulds later.

Now the working drawing was the stage right before the making stage. You had to know the exact measurements of the string, the pewter itself, if you wanted beads you had to add them to the drawing as well. Then you give it to Mr Tait and he lazercuts a mould which includes the back piece, the outline of your necklace, and one last piece of wood which is one air hole and one hole that got melted pewter poured into it. You would then wait for it to harden, then chop the would off with all your might and voila! You have yourself your pewter creation!
