Year 7 News

Term 3 highlights.

This term has been full of tasty treats. We started the term with the WONDER project, exploring how to make ice cream smooth, creamy, and flavourful. This reinforced the iterative PBL process as the children built on their science knowledge of states of matter and flavour. Did you know that adding fat to ice cream helps stop ice crystals from forming and creates a smoother texture?

From there, the students made and tested their own delicious, low-cost snacks. It was great to see them improve their flavour, texture, and recipes over several rounds.

The Year 7s also went to the Art Gallery in week 8 to work with the Education Officer, who led the students through a purakau that inspired Xoe Hall's mural in the Gallery. The students focused on graffiti art, street art and layering techniques in preparation for term four's PBL

Next term, the Year 7s will work on Arcade games, focusing on cardboard constructions, physics, and street art. All classes will head down to the University of Otago Physics Department between November 9th- 13th for some hands-on science. They will also have some arcade-type games from Video Tech, set up in the hall for the first two days of the term as inspiration.
